Kwame's Story

Age 7 · Spintex, Accra

I was very sick. The Hopefront people helped me get medicine. Now I am strong and I play football every day.

Kwame, age 7

Support a child like Kwame

Kwame was seven years old and significantly underweight when our health team first met him at a community screening in Spintex. He was lethargic and pale, and had been experiencing recurring episodes of illness for several months. His parents had sought care at a local clinic but could not afford the full course of treatment recommended.

Our health team identified severe anaemia and moderate malnutrition. Working with a partner healthcare provider, we facilitated his access to a full diagnostic workup and treatment plan — at no cost to the family. We also enrolled Kwame in our nutritional support track, providing therapeutic foods and monthly monitoring visits.

The transformation over the following three months was extraordinary. Kwame gained weight steadily. His energy returned. His mother told our team that she had forgotten what it looked like to see him run.

Today, Kwame is one of the most energetic children in his neighbourhood. He plays football every afternoon and rarely misses a day of school. His parents are deeply grateful — not just for the treatment, but for the fact that someone came to them, rather than waiting for them to find their way to care.

Kwame's recovery is a testament to what early intervention can achieve. And it is a reminder that the distance between a sick child and a healthy one is often just a matter of access.
