Yaw's Story

Yaw had been out of school for two years when our community liaison found him. He was fourteen and spending his days helping in his uncle's workshop — not because he wanted to, but because there seemed to be nothing else available to him.

He had dropped out at the end of primary school when his family's financial situation made continuing impossible. In the two years since, he had quietly made peace with the idea that school was behind him. He did not talk about it much. But he had not stopped thinking about it.

Hopefront Foundation's Education Support program includes a re-entry component specifically for children like Yaw — older students who have been out of school and need support not just financially but socially and academically to transition back.

We worked with a local junior high school to secure a place for Yaw, covered his fees and materials, and connected him with a volunteer tutor to help him bridge the two-year gap. He threw himself into it with a focus that surprised even his teachers.

By the end of his first term back, Yaw was performing at grade level in most subjects. He has already told our team that he intends to complete senior secondary school and study engineering. He says Hopefront gave him a second chance and he has no intention of wasting it.

Yaw is proof that it is never too late. Every child deserves a chance — even the ones the world has already started to leave behind.
