Empowering Mothers — Our Latest Community Health Workshop
Hopefront Team
20 August 2024
In August 2024, Hopefront Foundation hosted a community health workshop specifically designed for mothers and primary caregivers in the Tema community. The half-day session brought together over 60 women for an interactive, practical workshop covering child nutrition, hygiene practices, and navigating Ghana's healthcare system.
The workshop was facilitated by two registered nurses and a nutritionist, all of whom volunteered their time. Sessions were conducted in both English and Twi to ensure full accessibility. Topics covered included identifying signs of malnutrition in young children, the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, safe food preparation, and how to register for the National Health Insurance Scheme.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Many attendees shared that they had never received this kind of practical health information before, and several expressed a desire for follow-up sessions on specific topics.
Empowering mothers and caregivers with knowledge is one of the most powerful things we can do for the children in our communities. When a mother understands nutrition, her children eat better. When she knows the signs of illness, she seeks care sooner. The ripple effects of this kind of education are immeasurable.
